About Calcyard
Free yard calculators that respect your time and your data — built by people who actually order mulch by the truckload.
Calcyard started the way most good tools do: somebody stood in a garden center parking lot doing long division on a receipt, trying to remember whether a 4×8 bed at 10 inches takes 26 or 27 cubic feet of soil. (It's 26.7 — and sixteen 2 ft³ bags.)
We build the calculators we wanted to use:
- Practical outputs. Cubic yards, bag counts, tons and rough cost — the units suppliers actually quote. Not just an abstract volume number.
- Field-tested assumptions. Every density, coverage chart and depth recommendation cites its source or typical industry range right on the page (university extension guidance for mulch depths, CPSC publication #325 for playground surfacing, standard ICPI-style paver base specs, ASTM bag yields for concrete).
- Privacy by design. All math runs in your browser. We have no accounts and no newsletter traps. The only cookies come from standard analytics and advertising partners, described in our privacy policy.
Editorial standards
Numbers on Calcyard are checked against multiple industry and extension sources, and where materials legitimately vary (moisture, grind, rock type), we show the range instead of false precision. If you spot an error, tell us — we fix mistakes fast and credit readers who find them.
How the site is funded
Advertising, clearly separated from content, with no sponsored results or paid placements inside the calculators. The math doesn't care what brand of mulch you buy and neither do we.
